Road to New Year

Jean Bart, Lenin or Ohio: spending 25,000 giftlets

For 25,000 giftlets you can claim one of three battleships in December: Ohio, Lenin or Jean Bart. Jean Bart is the standout: among the GamingDiver community it earns the 2nd-highest damage and Base XP of 55 tier VII battleships. Lenin is close behind at tier VII, and Ohio is the most powerful ship of the three but only mid-pack at the top tier. All three are hard to get any other way, so the giftlet exchange is a rare guaranteed chance.

Whose numbers these are. Every player statistic here comes from players who upload their stats to GamingDiver, not from the whole Legends player base. They are more active and win more than the average player, so read the numbers as comparisons between ships, not as what an average player will get.

How rare they are

All three are less common in the GamingDiver community than the typical battleship at their tier, partly because that typical ship includes tech-tree battleships most players own. Lenin is the scarcest of the three, Ohio the most common.

By owners, Jean Bart and Lenin rank 36th and 42nd of 55 tier VII battleships, and Ohio 14th of 22 top-tier battleships. Our data cannot see a ship someone owns but has never taken into battle, so true ownership is a little higher for all three.

How much owners play them

GamingDiver players who own these ships keep playing them: roughly three in four owners have taken each one into 50 or more battles, against about half for the typical battleship at the same tier. Jean Bart is by far the stickiest.

Jean Bart17877%56 / 54%
Ohio12780%59 / 57%
Lenin9872%56 / 54%

A ship people keep coming back to after the novelty wears off is a strong sign it is fun to own. All three pass that test easily; Jean Bart's owners play it about 40% more than Ohio's and 80% more than Lenin's.

How they compare at their tier

Ohio is a top-tier (★) battleship; Jean Bart and Lenin are tier VII, so Ohio plays in a different bracket. Within its tier, each has a clear identity: Jean Bart is a fast-firing secondary brawler, Lenin a slow-reloading heavy hitter, Ohio a tough long-range sniper with the biggest shells of the three.

GamingDiver community results, standard battles (rank among battleships at the same tier: 55 at tier VII, 22 at ★):

Base XP is the measure the best players trust, because the game builds it from everything that wins battles: damage scaled to the target's health, kills, captures and whether your team won. Damage alone rewards a ship that farms big numbers from far away. Here the two agree: Jean Bart is 2nd of 55 tier VII battleships on both, and Lenin is in the top 7 on both. Against the typical tier VII battleship, Jean Bart earns 16% more Base XP and 20% more damage; Lenin earns 11% and 13% more.

Ohio is average for its tier. Its damage matches the top-tier battleship median almost exactly, its Base XP is 3% below it, and its win rate is slightly above it. Ohio is still the strongest ship of the three in absolute terms; it is simply meeting stronger opponents.

Base XP here is the export's per-battle base XP, the closest measure available: for about one player in ten it includes some in-battle bonuses, which lifts all ships alike.

How hard each is to get

None of the three can be bought or unlocked outright today; outside this event they come only from crates, at very low odds. The giftlet exchange is the first guaranteed route to any of them in a long time.

OhioA New Year event about three years agoSpectral Vaults, event crates80.2% (Chest of Rarities)

Ohio, the newest of the three, has appeared in fewer crates: 8 listed routes against 14 for Lenin and 17 for Jean Bart, and it has never been in a Santa crate. But that has not made it scarcer. Ohio has the most owners of the three (43% of GamingDiver players, against 25–29%), most likely because its New Year debut put it in many hands at once. Jean Bart is the one Wargaming itself calls "long out of reach for many Captains": it was a campaign reward, and campaigns do not return.

Today all three share the same 0.2% chance in the Chest of Rarities, and Ohio is also in the Mystic Lantern at 0.02%. At those odds, a guaranteed pick for 25,000 giftlets is far better value than chasing any of them in crates.

The exchange opens in early December with the Winter Holidays update. Reaching 25,000 giftlets takes every giftlet activity across three updates (up to 5,000 from the Halloween mode alone), so start now. Two mystery ships, one also at 25,000 giftlets, will be revealed closer to December; owners of all three should wait for that reveal.

Which one should you pick?

Pick by where you play and how you like to fight; all three are proven ships that owners keep coming back to.

The main trade-off is tier, not quality. Ohio drops you into the toughest lobbies and is the most capable ship; Jean Bart and Lenin both out-damage the typical tier VII battleship and face easier matchups. Between the two tier VIIs, Jean Bart is the more forgiving and more popular pick: its owners play it about 80% more than Lenin's do.
