Overview

Ernest E. Evans (1908–1944) was a U.S. Navy commander best known for his fearless leadership during the Battle off Samar in World War II, commanding the USS Johnston. Despite facing overwhelming odds from a far superior Japanese task force, Evans displayed remarkable tactical courage and determination, earning the Medal of Honor posthumously. His aggressive destroyer tactics exemplified the bold, fighting spirit of American naval warfare during the Pacific War.
