Use smoke and islands to create safe firing windows near important lanes, but keep a path out before radar, torpedoes, or blind fire become a problem.
Main mistake to avoid
Do not sit broadside and stationary in smoke as if it is armor. Torpedoes, radar, and pre-aimed battleships can erase Anchorage if you make your position obvious.
